Akshay and I got our engagement photos back! I am so obsessed with how amazing these turned out! Back when I got engaged, I knew right away that I wanted my engagement session to be during all the peak beautiful fall foliage here in Michigan. Akshay and I ended up going to Kensington Metropark in Milford, Michigan for our session. This was one of the first places we went hiking at during Covid when we started dating back in March of 2020. Also, huge shout out to my amazing and talented friend Lexie of Lexie Cornett Photography for taking these stunning photos of us.
Not only did I want to share all the engagment photos with you all, I also wanted to share a few tips as a 2024 Bride and photographer myself on how to get some amazing engagment photos and make your session the best experience. First of all, this outfit is my favorite one from our engagement session, I’ll be sharing the other outfit in another post. I think this outfit screams, perfect fall look! I decided on wearing this beautiful Altard State dress that I wore repeatedly this summer and fall. I love the movement it has the fun accents with the dots and frilly edges. I paired it with my favorite Nordstrom Anniversary sale purchase from 2022, the BP Knee High Boots. Akshays outfit, I kept simple by having him wear black slacks and a white button down shirt that I steamed both from amazon.
Now onto my tips for an amazing engagment session:
No Crazy Patterns
- Keep your outfits simple, that means stay away from wearing large logos and miss matching patterns. For example, if my partner wore a plaid shirt, I would’t want to clash with his outfit and wear even more plaid. I would want to keep the outfit simple and wear a similar color to his plaid shirt but a plain tshirt.
Drink Some Alcohol
- Of course, if you are of legal drinking age… Drink Some Alchohol to help you loosen up. I know everyone feels nervous before a photoshoot, and it probably isn’t something you do everyday. Your thinking “im going to look awkward” or “I don’t know how to pose”, or “will I look stupid in these” . Relax, your photographer knows what they are doing and are there to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. If you are really petrified, drink some liquid courage to help loosen up and feel more relaxed for the photos.
Wear Something You Feel Comfortable In
- The last thing you want during your engagement session is to feel unatural. Your engagement session is to document your Fiance and You in your element, and your authentic selves. Why wear clothing that is uncomfortable or something you don’t normally wear. Wear something that you are comfortable in and feel like yourself in. No need to make your self feel even more unconcious and awkward by wearing an outfit your not used to wearing.
